Loire

About this region

The Loire Valley follows the longest river in France and offers extraordinary varietal diversity within a cool, oceanic-to-continental climate spectrum. From west to east: crisp, salty Muscadet around Nantes; the great Chenin Blanc heartlands of Anjou and Vouvray (dry, off-dry, sweet, and traditional-method bubbles); the Cabernet Franc reds of Chinon, Bourgueil and Saumur-Champigny; and the flinty Sauvignon Blanc benchmarks of Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé at the eastern end. The wines share a defining quality: bright natural acidity and transparent terroir expression.
