Dolcetto

About this grape variety

Despite the name (which means "little sweet one"), Dolcetto is a dry red grape — the everyday Piedmontese red alongside Barbera and Nebbiolo. The variety ripens early, produces deeply coloured wines with low acidity, soft tannin and ripe blackberry-and-almond aromatics, intended for drinking young. Top DOCs include Dolcetto d'Alba, Dolcetto di Dogliani and Diano d'Alba. A grape that exists comfortably in Nebbiolo's shadow.
