Adega do Vulcão

A small, ambitious Pico Island producer, Adega do Vulcão (the Volcano Cellar) takes its name from the island's still-active volcanic peak that overlooks the vineyards. The estate works exclusively with traditional Azorean grapes — Verdelho, Arinto dos Açores, Terrantez do Pico — planted in the iconic stone-walled currais. The visit is genuinely artisanal: a tour of the small modern adega, walks through the lava landscape and tastings of the limited-production wines that express Pico's salty, mineral identity.

Born from the passion of a Florentine couple, Adega do Vulcão started in 2008 as a bond between them and the Azores Islands. The project later expanded to Pico Island, where ancient UNESCO heritage vineyards are planted in lava crust. The company operates on Pico and Faial islands with around 14 hectares of vines. It focuses on producing quality white wines from indigenous grapes in volcanic soils, expressing love for extreme nature and its relationship with man.
