If Bairrada has a modern identity, Luís Pato authored it. Working from his family estate in Anadia since the 1980s, Luís Pato championed the indigenous Baga grape against fashionable international varieties and rebuilt the international reputation of Bairrada one bottling at a time. The visit is a working masterclass: a tour of the cellars where the Vinha Pan, Vinha Barrosa and Vinha Barrio old-vine reds rest in concrete and oak, tastings of multi-vintage verticals and the celebrated traditional-method sparkling wines, often led by Luís Pato himself or his daughter Filipa.
Family produces wine since the 18th century. Luís Pato is known as "Mister Baga".
