Mouchão

Herdade do Mouchão is one of the most respected wineries of the Alentejo, in the Reynolds family since 1888. Winemaking remains remarkably traditional: foot-treading in white-marble lagares, spontaneous fermentation and long ageing in old wood produce the legendary Mouchão Tinto (Alicante Bouschet and Trincadeira) that ages gracefully for decades. The visit to the property — by appointment — is a journey back in time, taking in the main house, lagares and historic cellars.

The Herdade do Mouchão was acquired by the English ancestors of the current Reynolds family in 1888; winemaking remains essentially traditional, with foot-treading in marble lagares and extended ageing in old wood.
