Since 1751, Ferreira has always been synonymous with high‑quality Portuguese wine. The brand’s history is intertwined with the evolution of the Demarcated Region of Douro, established in 1756, and its Port and still wines. Years later, the family business was run by Antónia Adelaide, widow of António Bernardo II. Known for her exceptional energy and rare commercial talent, she gave a great boost to viticulture in the Douro and developed a notable social‑assistance activity in the region. Upon her death, the company became a limited partnership and began a new phase of expansion, always maintaining its core values. These values have carried Ferreira to the present day and were instrumental in creating wines such as the mythical Barca Velha in the 1950s. Since 1987, under the management of Sogrape Vinhos, which has come to lead the national market for Port wines and also present prestigious brands such as Quinta da Leda.
