Description

Tawny wines are red wines made from the same grapes used for Ruby wines, but they age only two to three years in barriques before moving on to larger casks. These allow greater contact between the wine, the wood, and the air. As a result, Tawny wines breathe more, oxidizing and aging quickly. Because of the high oxidation, they lose the initial red color, adopting lighter amber tones and flavors of dried fruit such as nuts or almonds. With age, Tawny wines gain even more aromatic complexity, enriching their aromas. The bottling year may not correspond to the image presented. (illustrative image only)
