It displays a deep amber hue with brownish‑red undertones. The nose is sweet and complex, offering ripe fruit, dried fruit and floral notes. On the palate, it delivers honey, spices and licorice, finishing with a long finish and extraordinary acidity. In the national wine scene there is no more consensus‑building producer than Niepoort, whose long history began in 1842 with the first Van Der Niepoort arriving in Portugal. Starting out in the Port wine market as a trader, he quickly established a business that would prove prosperous and enduring. Thus, in the fifth generation, Dirk Niepoort was born—a pivotal figure in the wine world, recognised as one of the most important personalities working for Portuguese wine. He has collaborated with dozens of producers, helping them improve their wines and understand their vineyards, while also shaping his own legacy with those who constantly create daring wines.
