In 1730, Henry Burmester and John Nash founded Burmester & Nash in London, devoted to the grain trade. By 1750, already in Vila Nova de Gaia, they began exporting Port to Europe and the British Isles. Over successive generations they distinguished themselves with the rigor and expertise devoted to Port, raising the Burmester name to the highest levels of quality and international acclaim. Burmester is a specialist in harvests, offering magnificent vintages that it releases regularly; its Vintage Ports remain excellent, shining in the finest years. At the millennium’s turn, Burmester was acquired by the Sogevinus Group, which continues to immortalise brands created five centuries ago. The bottling year may not match the illustration provided.
