The Vintage designation is the highest classification that can be given to a port wine. A port is considered Vintage when it is made from grapes harvested in a single year from a single vineyard (usually of the same variety), and the designation is awarded only in years deemed of exceptional quality. It ages in the barrel for a maximum of two and a half years, after which it is aged in bottle. The bottling year may not correspond to the year shown in the image. (Illustrative image only)
