The Royal Oporto brand emerged from translating the first commercial designation of the Companhia Geral da Agricultura das Vinhas do Alto Douro – Real Companhia dos Vinhos do Porto – into English. The company became known in England and among English merchants in Porto as the Royal Oporto Wine Company. “Royal Oporto” is a shortened name that has become the company’s flagship Port wine brand in the Anglo‑Saxon markets. The bottling year may not match the image shown (illustrative).
