The young entrepreneur Manuel María González launched his career in the wine world as a merchant, partnering with Juan Bautista Dubosc and Francisco Gutiérrez de Agüera. As the company prospered, he quickly became involved in production under the guidance of his maternal uncle, José Ángel. In his honor, he christened the founding solera “Solera del Tío Pepe.” Thus began the legend of the world’s most famous sherry, which in 1854—just 20 years after its founding—became one of the best‑known references and the first exporter of sherry from Spain. Today, with cellars located around the globe, the fifth generation keeps the business running as a family enterprise and exports its products to more than 100 countries.
