The history of Favaios is lost in time. Its name derives from “Flávius,” an ancient Roman settlement that belonged to the land of Panoías. Its development followed the dynasties. Since 1952, in the Demarcated Region of the Douro, the Favaios Cooperative Winery has become one of the largest and most recognised in the country, particularly for the unmistakable quality of its Aperitivo and Moscatel de Favaios. The growth of this village owes much to wine, which has played a huge role in the local economy and architecture. Attentive to rising market demands and the internal shortcomings typical of structures dating back to 1952, the Favaios Winery decided to invest in modernising and revitalising the Cooperative Winery’s infrastructure, now with more than 550 members.
