In 1730, Henry Burmester and John Nash founded Burmester & Nash in London, dedicated to the grain trade. Later, in 1750, now based in Vila Nova de Gaia, they began exporting Port wine to Europe and the British Isles. Generation after generation, they distinguished themselves through the rigor and expertise they devoted to Port wine, raising the Burmester name to the highest level of quality and international recognition. Burmester can be considered a specialist in vintages, with magnificent aged tawnies at its disposal, which it releases regularly. Even so, its Vintage Ports are of excellent quality, showing their splendor in great vintage years. At the close of the millennium, Burmester was acquired by the Sogevinus Group, which continues to perpetuate brands created five centuries ago.
