In the national wine panorama, there is no producer more consensual than Niepoort, and its long history began in 1842 with the first Van Der Niepoort to arrive in Portugal. Starting out in the Port wine market as a merchant, he quickly established a business that would prove prosperous and forward‑looking. Thus, in the 5th generation, Dirk Niepoort was born—a producer who cannot be ignored in the wine world, recognized as one of the most important figures who has worked, and continues to work, for Portuguese wine. He has collaborated with dozens of producers, helped them improve their wines and understand their vineyards, and has likewise prepared his legacy with those who are always creating irreverent wines.
