The company was founded in 1926 by Messias Baptista, who managed the business until 1973. To this day, the management of Caves Messias remains in the hands of the Messias family's descendants. Since its founding, Messias has produced and marketed wines from the principal demarcated regions: Dão, Bairrada, Douro, Vinho Verde, Beiras, and Porto.
