In Portugal’s wine scene, Niepoort stands out as the most respected producer, and its long history began in 1842 when the first Van Der Niepoort arrived in the country. As a merchant in the Port wine market, he quickly established a thriving business. In the fifth generation, Dirk Niepoort emerged—a pivotal figure in the wine world, recognized as one of the most influential personalities working for the benefit of Portuguese wine. He has collaborated with dozens of producers, helping them improve their wines and better understand their vineyards, while also building his own legacy alongside those who continually create bold, irreverent wines. Today, Dirk Niepoort is involved in many other projects across nearly all of Portugal’s wine regions and several abroad. The bottling year may not match the image shown. (Illustrative photo)
