The company was founded in 1926 by Messias Baptista, who ran the business until 1973. Today the Messias caves remain under the stewardship of the Messias family descendants. Since its inception, Messias has produced and marketed wines from the principal demarcated regions: Dão, Bairrada, Douro, Vinho Verde, Beiras and Port wine.
