The Delaforce family, of Huguenot descent, has a wine‑trading heritage that stretches back more than 400 years. Their involvement in the Port wine trade began in 1834 when John Fleurriet Delaforce traveled to Porto to establish the new Martinez Gassiot firm on behalf of his partners. In 1868, his son George Henry Delaforce, inspired by the riches of the Douro and the world of Port wine, founded his own company, House of Delaforce. (illustrative image)
