The company was founded in 1926 by Messias Baptista, who maintained control of the business until 1973. Today, the management of Caves Messias remains under the stewardship of the Messias family descendants. Since its inception, Messias has produced and marketed wines from the principal designated regions: Dão, Bairrada, Douro, Vinho Verde, Beiras, and Port Wine.
