Port wine Tawny Reserva – a quality wine that celebrates Brazil’s 200th anniversary of independence. Until about 1756, the “shipment wines” that were then called Port followed the old winemaking process; fortification – always in small volumes – occurred only after fermentation finished, yielding dry wines. In 1820 the modern fortification method appeared, deliberately stopping alcoholic fermentation to produce sweet wines. This technique only became widespread in 1852, when Port wines began to resemble their current styles. Thus, Port is a fortified wine produced in the Demarcated Region of the Douro under conditions shaped by natural and human factors. The traditional production process involves stopping must fermentation by adding grape spirit, batching wines, and then ageing. Port wines are categorized by ageing type, ranging from Ruby, Tawny, White to Rosé. The bottling year may not match the image shown. (image purely illustrative)
