It all began in 1918, when Manoel Domingues Poças Júnior—born in the heart of the chaos surrounding Port wine—decided to start his own business. It was August 15, just a few months before the Armistice. Manoel Poças was 30 years old and already had some experience in the field. Together with his uncle, he founded a company to sell brandy to major Port wine producers. Soon after, he established the headquarters that remains in Vila Nova de Gaia to this day. First the uncle, then the brothers, the wife, the grandchildren: the entire Poças family has shared a passion for wine, blending respect for tradition with an open mind toward the innovations brought by new generations. Today, with three estates in the finest locations of the Douro Demarcated Region, Poças exercises full control over the quality of its wines. And the family’s involvement is stronger than ever.
