Description

This rich, velvety fortified wine was crafted from Baga grapes and aged for at least ten years in barrels, with a high level of oxygenation. Fermentation took place in small open vats and was halted by adding grape brandy produced at Quinta das Bágeiras, which was double‑distilled in Charente stills. The name Mário Sérgio Alves Nuno may not mean much to the most distracted, but he is none other than the great mentor behind the outstanding wines of Quinta das Bágeiras. The history of Quinta das Bágeiras already spans three generations, yet it was only in 1989, under Mário Sérgio’s guidance, that the estate began bottling and selling its wines, quickly becoming a benchmark for Bairrada and Portuguese wines. Though made according to the techniques of earlier generations, the wines of Quinta das Bágeiras are not fleeting fads; they remain perpetually in style, revealing each harvest the character of the region and the people who produce them.
