What do winemakers do when they have a big anniversary to celebrate? That’s right—they create an extraordinary wine. In fact, the Douro Boys have just produced a Port, the Douro Boys Vintage 2011. The brilliant 2011 harvest yielded magnificent wines and is very possibly one of the best ever. The Douro Boys selected the most promising ports from each estate that year and crafted a vintage port that harkens back to the great wines of the 1970s: an impressive Vintage Port, but one that will likely reach its true greatness only after twenty or thirty years. By doing this, the Douro Boys are breaking with recent trends that dictated that a Vintage Port should also be enjoyable and drinkable when young. The Douro Boys Vintage 2011 is definitely aimed at the next generations of wine lovers who aren’t thinking only in the short term. Only 750 bottles were bottled.
