The Newman family has been involved in the Port wine business since the late 17th century, later selling the Hunt, Roope & Co house to Ferreira while retaining ownership of the estate. Today, the Fladgate Partnership – a family‑owned company that owns Taylor's, Fonseca, Croft, and Delaforce – has purchased the 50‑hectare Quinta da Eira Velha. Fladgate intends to market this wine under the name Quinta da Eira Velha, a name already recognized by consumers since the single estate has been produced since 1978.
