The history of Favaios fades into the past. Its name comes from “Flávius,” an ancient Roman settlement that belonged to the land of Panoías, and its development followed the dynasties. Since 1952, in this village in the Demarcated Region of the Douro, the Cooperative Winery of Favaios has become one of the largest and most recognised in the country, especially for the unmistakable quality of its Aperitif and Moscatel de Favaios. Wine has played a huge role in the local economy and architecture, driving the village’s growth. Attentive to rising market demands and the internal shortcomings typical of 1952‑era structures, the winery chose to modernise and revitalise its facilities, now boasting over 550 members.
