Quinta da Pacheca, one of the most well-known estates in the Douro, is notable for having been one of the first to bottle its own branded wines. The estate’s name has been referenced since April 17, 1738, when a dated document first mentions “Quinta da Pacheca,” because its owner was D. Mariana Pacheco Pereira. It was only in 1903 that D. José Freire de Serpa Pimentel decided to pursue his growing interest in enology, buying the property with the aim of dedicating himself to viticulture and winemaking. Today, a century later, the new generation of the Serpa Pimentel family takes over the estate’s management: Maria, Catarina, and José are the young faces of this very family‑run enterprise. The year of bottling may not match the image shown. (Illustrative image only)
