With a history dating back to the early 18th century, the main house was built in 1720 and remarkably survived the 1755 earthquake, thanks to the granite structure of the Serra de Sintra. Wine production ceased in 1903, but a century later the "westernmost vineyards in Europe" were replanted and the winery was modernized. The wines of Casal Sta. Maria are the expression of Nature and the unique terroir surrounding the vineyards, which lie along the coastal edge of the Serra de Sintra. (image for illustrative purposes only)
