Barão de Vilar, Vinhos S.A. was founded in January 1996, based on a stock of wines acquired by Fernando Luiz Van Zeller and passed to his two sons, Fernando and Álvaro. Its corporate name revives a noble title granted by Queen Maria II of Portugal to Cristiano Nicolau Kopke, the 1st Baron of Vilar, in 1836—an inheritance that remains in direct possession of the family. Before the creation of Barão de Vilar, the Van Zeller family owned Quinta do Noval, one of the most prestigious estates in the Port wine sector, from which came the legendary “Vintage 1931 Nacional”, regarded as one of the two best wines of the 20th century by *Wine Spectator*. Today, Barão de Vilar is known as Van Zeller Wine Collection, a company that embodies a collection of values, ideas, stories and wines. The year of bottling may not correspond to the image shown.
