With a history that dates back to the early 18th century, the main house was built in 1720 and, surprisingly, survived the 1755 earthquake thanks to the granitic structure of the Sintra Mountains. In 1903 wine production ceased, but a century later the “most westerly vineyards in Europe” were replanted and the cellar modernised. The wines of Casal Sta. Maria are the result of nature’s expression and the unique terroir surrounding the vines, which are situated along the coastal edge of the Sintra Mountains.
