In 1927, 11 partners led by Domingos Silva and Ângelo Neves founded Aliança in Sangalhos (Anadia), a company that is already over 80 years old. From the outset it exported immediately to Brazil, Africa, and Europe, and today more than 50 % of its production is destined for export—mainly wines, sparkling wines, and brandy—making Aliança a recognizable brand in Portugal and in about 60 countries. In 2007 Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal acquired the majority stake in Aliança, bringing it into the Bacalhôa Group and changing the company’s legal name from Caves Aliança S.A. to Aliança Vinhos de Portugal S.A., at which point the corporate image was also updated. Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal, one of Portugal’s largest and most innovative wine companies, has built a wide range of wines over the years that have earned it a solid reputation and the preference of both national and international consumers. Present in seven Portuguese wine regions, with a total of 1,200 ha of vineyards, 40 estates, 40 different varieties, and four wine centers (cellars), the company stands out in the market for its size and its 70 % autonomy in own production.
