It was in 1927 that eleven members led by Domingos Silva and Ângelo Neves decided to found Aliança in Sangalhos (Anadia), a winery that already has more than 80 years of history. It began its activity by immediately exporting to Brazil, Africa, and Europe, and today more than 50 % of its production is destined for export, especially wines, sparkling wines, and brandy—Aliança’s brand image in Portugal and in the roughly 60 countries to which it exports. In 2007, Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal acquired the majority stake in Aliança, bringing it under the Bacalhôa Group; the corporate name of Caves Aliança S.A. was changed to Aliança Vinhos de Portugal S.A., at which point the institutional image was also updated. Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal, one of the largest and most innovative wine companies in Portugal, has developed over the years a wide range of wines that have earned it a solid reputation and the preference of both national and international consumers. With a presence in seven Portuguese wine regions, a total of 1,200 ha of vineyards, 40 estates, 40 different grape varieties, and four wine centers (cellars), the company stands out in the market for its size and for having 70 % autonomy in its own production.
