It was in 1927 that 11 members led by Domingos Silva and Ângelo Neves decided to found Aliança in Sangalhos (Anadia), which is now over 80 years old. The company immediately began exporting to Brazil, Africa and Europe, and today more than half of its production is destined for export—mainly wines, sparkling wines and brandies—which represent Aliança’s brand image in Portugal and in the roughly 60 countries to which it ships. In 2007 Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal acquired the majority stake in Aliança, bringing it under the Bacalhôa Group. The company’s legal name was changed from Caves Aliança S.A. to Aliança Vinhos de Portugal S.A., and its corporate image was updated accordingly. Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal, one of the largest and most innovative wine firms in Portugal, has built a wide range of wines over the years that have earned it a solid reputation and the loyalty of both national and international consumers. With a presence in seven Portuguese wine regions, a total of 1,200 ha of vineyards, 40 estates, 40 different grape varieties and four winemaking centres (cellars), the company distinguishes itself in the market by its size and by owning 70 % of its own production.
