In 1927, 11 associates led by Domingos Silva and Ângelo Neves founded Aliança in Sangalhos (Anadia), a company now boasting more than 80 years of history. It began exporting immediately to Brazil, Africa and Europe, and today over 50 % of its production is earmarked for export, chiefly wines, sparkling wines and brandies, reinforcing Aliança’s brand image in Portugal and in about 60 countries where it ships. In 2007, Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal acquired a majority stake in Aliança, bringing it into the Bacalhôa Group; the corporate name of Caves Aliança S.A was changed to Aliança Vinhos de Portugal S.A., and its institutional image was updated accordingly. Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal, one of Portugal’s largest and most innovative wine companies, has over the years developed a wide range of wines that have earned it a solid reputation and the preference of both national and international consumers. Present in seven Portuguese wine regions, the company manages 1,200 ha of vineyards, 40 estates, 40 different grape varieties and four wine centres (cellars), distinguishing itself in the market by its size and by achieving 70 % autonomy in its own production.
