Founded in 1927 by 11 partners led by Domingos Silva and Ângelo Neves, Aliança was established in Sangalhos (Anadia) and already boasts over 80 years of history. It immediately began exporting to Brazil, Africa and Europe, and today more than half of its production is destined for export – mainly wines, sparkling wines and brandies – making Aliança a recognised brand in Portugal and in roughly 60 countries where it ships. In 2007 Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal acquired a majority stake in Aliança, bringing it under the Bacalhôa Group and changing the company’s legal name from Caves Aliança S.A. to Aliança Vinhos de Portugal S.A., at which point a new corporate identity was also introduced. Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal, one of Portugal’s largest and most innovative wine companies, has developed over the years a wide range of wines that have earned it a solid reputation and the preference of both domestic and international consumers. Present in seven Portuguese wine regions, it covers a total of 1,200 hectares of vineyards, 40 estates, 40 different grape varieties and four wine centres (cellars). The company distinguishes itself in the market by its size and by producing 70 % of its output in‑house. (Illustrative image only)
