It was in 1927 that 11 partners, led by Domingos Silva and Ângelo Neves, decided to found Aliança in Sangalhos (Anadia), which now boasts over 80 years of history. The company immediately began exporting to Brazil, Africa and Europe, and today more than 50 % of its production is earmarked for export, especially wines, sparkling wines and aguardente – the Aliança brand in Portugal and in roughly 60 countries where it ships. In 2007, Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal acquired a majority stake in Aliança, bringing it into the Bacalhôa Group and changing the corporate name from Caves Aliança S.A. to Aliança Vinhos de Portugal S.A., at which point an institutional image overhaul also took place. Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal, one of Portugal’s largest and most innovative wine companies, has over the years developed a wide range of wines that have earned it a solid reputation and the preference of national and international consumers. Present in seven Portuguese wine regions, the company manages 1,200 ha of vineyards, 40 estates, 40 different grape varieties and four wine centers (cellars), distinguishing itself in the market by its size and by 70 % autonomy in its own production.
