It was in 1927 that 11 associates, led by Domingos Silva and Ângelo Neves, founded Aliança in Sangalhos (Anadia), a company that now boasts over 80 years of history. The winery began exporting immediately to Brazil, Africa and Europe, and today more than 50 % of its production is destined for export—particularly wines, sparkling wines and spirits—representing the Aliança brand in Portugal and in roughly 60 countries. In 2007, Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal acquired a majority stake in Aliança, bringing it under the Bacalhôa Group and changing the corporate name from Caves Aliança S.A. to Aliança Vinhos de Portugal S.A., at which point its institutional image was also updated. Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal, one of the largest and most innovative wine companies in Portugal, has built a wide range of wines over the years that have earned it a solid reputation and the preference of both national and international consumers. The company operates in seven Portuguese wine regions, covering 1,200 ha of vineyards, 40 estates, 40 different grape varieties and four wine centers, standing out in the market for its size and for 70 % autonomy in its own production.
