In 1927, eleven partners led by Domingos Silva and Ângelo Neves decided to found Aliança in Sangalhos (Anadia), which now boasts more than 80 years of history. The company immediately began exporting to Brazil, Africa and Europe, and today over 50 % of its production is earmarked for export, mainly wines, sparkling wines and brandies, forming Aliança’s brand image in Portugal and in roughly 60 countries where it exports. In 2007, Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal acquired a majority stake in Aliança, bringing it under the Bacalhôa Group, and the corporate name of Caves Aliança S.A. was changed to Aliança Vinhos de Portugal S.A., at which point the company’s institutional image was also updated. Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal, one of the largest and most innovative wine companies in Portugal, has over the years developed a wide range of wines that have earned it a solid reputation and the preference of national and international consumers. Present in seven Portuguese wine regions, covering a total of 1,200 ha of vineyards, 40 estates, 40 different varieties and four wine centers (cellars), the company distinguishes itself in the market by its size and by 70 % autonomy in its own production.
