It was in 1927 that eleven partners, led by Domingos Silva and Ângelo Neves, founded Aliança in Sangalhos (Anadia). Today the winery boasts more than 80 years of history. From the outset it began exporting immediately to Brazil, Africa and Europe, and today more than half of its production is destined for export – primarily wines, sparkling wines and brandies – which form Aliança’s brand image both in Portugal and in roughly 60 export markets. In 2007 Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal acquired a majority stake in Aliança, bringing the winery into the Bacalhôa Group. At that time the corporate name was changed from Caves Aliança S.A. to Aliança Vinhos de Portugal S.A., and the company also refreshed its institutional image. Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal, one of the largest and most innovative wine companies in Portugal, has built over the years a wide range of wines that have earned it a solid reputation and the loyalty of both domestic and international consumers. The company operates across seven Portuguese wine regions, covering a total of 1,200 ha of vineyards, 40 estates, 40 grape varieties and four winemaking centers (cellars). It stands out in the market for its scale and for the autonomy it maintains in producing 70 % of its own wines.
