It was in 1927 that 11 partners, led by Domingos Silva and Ângelo Neves, founded Aliança in Sangalhos (Anadia), which now boasts over 80 years of history. The company immediately began exporting to Brazil, Africa and Europe, and today more than 50 % of its production is earmarked for export, mainly wines, sparkling wines and spirits, forming the Aliança brand image in Portugal and in roughly 60 countries to which it exports. In 2007 Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal acquired the majority stake in Aliança, bringing it under the Bacalhôa Group, and the corporate name of Caves Aliança S.A. was changed to Aliança Vinhos de Portugal S.A., at which point an institutional image overhaul also took place. Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal, one of the largest and most innovative wine companies in Portugal, has developed over the years a wide range of wines that has earned it a solid reputation and the preference of national and international consumers. Present in seven Portuguese wine regions, with a total of 1,200 ha of vineyards, 40 estates, 40 different grape varieties and four wine centres (cellars), the company stands out in the market for its size and for 70 % autonomy in its own production.
