In 1889 the family earned its first Bronze medal and was entered into the Golden Book at the International Exposition in Paris, thanks to the quality of its wines and olive oils. Later, with the advent of the Republic in the early twentieth century, the Almeida Garrett family emigrated to France. When they returned, they planted the first Chardonnay vines, which have become emblematic of the house. Since then the family has pursued a diversity of agricultural products, but wine has remained the primary focus and the largest part of the family's dedication. Today, Almeida Garrett Wines is one of the most emblematic references in the Beira Interior, being the oldest producer in the region with about 44 hectares under vine and already benefiting from the work of the fourth and fifth generations.
