Starting from an idea by Rolf Niepoort, his son Dirk first reached out to Álvaro Castro in 2000 to create the Dado. The goal was to craft the perfect wine, marrying the elegance and longevity of the Dão with the concentration and structure of the Douro. It pours a deep ruby, with a complex bouquet of floral and red‑fruit notes typical of Touriga Nacional, plus spicy and mineral nuances. On the palate it’s enveloping, with lively acidity, gentle but present tannins, finely‑expressed fruit, and an impressive structure that finishes long and persistent—a wine of great longevity.
