Alvaro Palacios is simply a great leader of a movement called “The New Spain”, and is probably the most famous Spanish winemaker in the world, thanks to his wines – especially L’Ermita, regarded as Spain’s most important wine. Alvaro was born in a “wine cradle”, one of nine children of the owner of Palacios Remondo. From early on he knew the profession he would follow. He studied in Bordeaux and finished an internship at Château Pétrus, where Jean‑Pierre Moueix showed him the immense importance of making great wines. In 1989 he settled in a small region of clustered villages and century‑old vines perched on difficult-to‑explore slate slopes. In 1990 he bought Finca Dofi and launched a lifelong project, leading to his current status as the most influential Spanish winemaker worldwide. (Illustrative image only)
