In 1927, 11 partners led by Domingos Silva and Ângelo Neves founded Aliança in Sangalhos (Anadia), which now boasts over 80 years of history. It began its activities by immediately exporting to Brazil, Africa and Europe, and today more than 50 % of its production is destined for export, primarily wines, sparkling wines and aguardentes – the brand image of Aliança in Portugal and in roughly 60 countries where it ships. In 2007, Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal acquired the majority stake in Aliança, bringing it under the Bacalhôa Group, and the corporate name of Caves Aliança S.A. was changed to Aliança Vinhos de Portugal S.A., with a simultaneous revamp of the institutional image. Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal, one of the largest and most innovative wine companies in Portugal, has over the years developed a wide range of wines that has earned it a solid reputation and the preference of both national and international consumers. Present in 7 Portuguese wine regions, with a total of 1,200 ha of vineyards, 40 estates, 40 different grape varieties and 4 wine centres (cellars), the company stands out for its size and for maintaining 70 % autonomy in its own production.
