Description

Tawny wines are red wines made from the same grapes as Ruby wines, but they age only two to three years in barrels before being transferred to casks. These casks give the wine greater contact with wood and air, allowing it to breathe, oxidise, and age rapidly. The high oxidation causes Tawny wines to lose their original red hue, adopting lighter amber tones and flavours of dried fruit such as nuts or almonds. With age, they develop even more aromatic complexity, enriching their bouquet. The bottling year may not match the image shown. (Illustrative image)
