This Arco d’Aguieira, hailing from the Bairrada, certainly isn’t going to lull you to sleep. Made primarily with robust Touriga Nacional, it’s a medium-bodied wine bursting with ripe red fruit – think strawberry, definitely – and a lingering spice aroma characteristic of the region. It’s a wine that demands a hearty plate of grilled beef or a good, traditional Portuguese stew to balance its lively acidity and structure. A winner, of course, but one that ultimately isn’t impressed by awards.
