Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal, founded in 1922 under the name João Pires & Filhos, has charted a long journey, establishing itself as one of Portugal’s most innovative wine producers. The company began by producing wines from grapes grown in the Palmela region. Throughout the 1980s, Bacalhôa expanded, acquiring estates across the country and creating new standards for quality wine production. The Quinta da Bacalhôa is considered the finest estate from the first half of the 15th century still in existence in Portugal, an old property of the Portuguese Royal House. Located in Azeitão, the Quinta and the famous Palácio da Bacalhôa form an artistic monument of the greatest relevance to the country. Today, the Quinta da Bacalhôa belongs to the Berardo Foundation, part of the same family, whose patriarch is Commander José Berardo. On 23 June 1910, it was classified as a National Monument. Around the Quinta da Bacalhôa, visitors find picturesque villages, cellars, and one of Portugal’s most beautiful and imposing landscapes – the Arrábida Natural Park.
