Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal, founded in 1922 under the name João Pires & Filhos, has come a long way, establishing itself as one of Portugal’s most innovative wine producers. The company began by producing wines from grapes grown in the Palmela region. In the 1980s, Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal started expanding, acquiring properties across the country and creating new paradigms for quality wine production. The Quinta da Bacalhôa is considered the most beautiful estate from the first half of the 15th century still existing in Portugal, originally a property of the Portuguese Royal Household. Located in Azeitão, the Quinta and the famous Palácio da Bacalhôa form an artistic monument of great significance to the country. Today, the Quinta da Bacalhôa belongs to the Berardo Foundation, which is owned by the Berardo family whose patriarch is Commander José Berardo. It was declared a National Monument on 23 June 1910. In the area surrounding the Quinta da Bacalhôa, visitors find picturesque villages, cellars, and one of Portugal’s most beautiful and imposing landscapes – the Arrábida Natural Park.
