Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal, founded in 1922 as João Pires & Filhos, has made a long journey, establishing itself as one of Portugal’s most innovative wine producers. The company began by making wines from grapes in the Palmela region. Throughout the 1980s, Bacalhôa expanded, acquiring vineyards across the country and setting new standards for Quality wine production. Regarded as the most beautiful estate from the first half of the 15th century still existing in Portugal, Quinta da Bacalhôa is an old property of the Portuguese Royal House. Located in Azeitão, the estate and the famous Bacalhôa Palace form an artistically significant monument for the country. Today, Quinta da Bacalhôa belongs to Fundação Berardo, a family foundation headed by Comendador José Berardo. It was declared a National Monument on 23 June 1910. In the surrounding area, visitors find picturesque villages, wine cellars, and one of Portugal’s most beautiful and imposing landscapes – the Arrábida Natural Park.
