The Barroca da Malhada branco comes from a blend of Arinto, Fernão Pires and Bical, harvested manually and vinified in a craft manner, with spontaneous fermentation and low intervention in the cellar. It aged for eight months, split between stainless steel (80 %), first‑use Portuguese oak barrels (10 %) and amphorae (10 %). Fermentation took place at low temperatures, with regular bâtonnage and extended fining on fine lees. The wine displays a lemon‑yellow colour. On the nose it reveals great richness and complexity, with primary fruit in the forefront, followed by subtle toasty notes from the barrel and a delicate earthy character from the amphora. In the mouth the acidity stands out for its vivacity and precision, with the different layers of flavour perfectly integrated, giving the wine a gastronomic, structured and notably balanced profile. Barroca da Malhada is an artisanal wine producer from the Beira Interior, originating from a historic property dating back to the Middle Ages that belonged to the Viscounts of Tinalhas. With about five hectares of vines grown in a biological mode and with biodynamic practices, it works on granite‑derived schist‑sandy soils, in one of Portugal’s most mountainous regions. The wines reflect a low‑intervention approach, prioritising authenticity, freshness and place expression. (illustrative image)
