This Niepoort Bastardo, hailing from the Douro’s slopes, is a wine that immediately recalls the region’s raw, honest character. Though it doesn’t flaunt the trendiest grapes, it packs a remarkably concentrated punch, offering ripe black fruit and a hint of spice. You can certainly attribute this intensity to the Douro’s unique terroir – that warm climate and volcanic bedrock. Wonderful with a perfectly grilled beef dish, or perhaps alongside a hearty *feijão encarnado*.
